ABOUT OPTOMETRIC SERVICESactg vision
Good vision is much more than seeing 20/20. To understand what our eyes see, we need to see clearly and be able to make sense of what we see. These are skills we develop in early childhood. Some children develop them more slowly or at a different rate than the norm and as a result have difficulty learning to read and write. In fact, researchers have found that up to 85% of children with learning problems have significant delays in vision skills.

For example, even if your child has 20/20 vision, he/she may see "was" as "saw", or the letter " b " as " d ", " g " or " p " or he/she may see two images on a page, or tell you that the words and lines jump around on the page.

Our specially trained optometrists and optometric staff identify and correct vision related learning problems. With their help, your child can learn to see words as they are written, know the difference between similar letters and see words and letters that stay in the same place. The Vision Clinic also can fill corrective contacts and lens prescriptions for children and adults.

NEW SERVICES OFFERED

Mobile Vision

This service provides eye exams to our littlest customers – age 6 months to 5 years – that attend local childcare centers. From our vision research, we estimate that 40-67% of our children do not receive the recommended follow-up eye exams and glasses, after failing a vision screening.
ACTG Mobile Vision Services was created to help make that follow-up easier. Our “little red wagon” comes to the center along with one of our Doctors of Optometry and is able to do a full vision exam, including eye health, eye movements, eye teaming, focusing and refractive status to determine if glasses are needed. If needed, we are also bringing an adorable array of eyeglass frames to choose from, so the glasses can be ordered on the same day.

Spot Vision

We are also very excited to be the proud owners of a new high tech device called Spot Vision. We are the first in Minnesota to have the Spot Vision screening device and are thrilled to add this to our services.

This mighty little device weighs only 2.5 pounds, but does the remarkable work of screening the vision of babies as young as 6 months and up. This is great for our active children, who don’t need to have sustained attention for more than ¾ of a second in order to get full information on what the eyes are seeing. It is able to find the indicators, which may lead to high farsightedness, that regular screenings do not catch. Spot Vision also gives a preliminary reading of the prescription that may be needed in glasses and is very helpful in using with the eye exams, to give the Doctor a place to start quickly, as we know what “wiggly worms” our little ones can be.

Our fee schedule for vision services varies based on services needed. Medical insurance may provide reimbursement for some of these fees. We welcome referrals from physicians, schools and other community care givers.

Parents may also seek vision services without a referral by calling: (612) 706-5540 or sending an Email to: vision@actg.org.
