On site therapists are available for those children with moderate
to severe developmental delays. We have available the services of
Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapist at the center. Special
needs children receive routinely scheduled assessment, weekly
observation, monitoring, and one to one sessions with the
appropriate professional. The special needs staff work with the
classroom staff to ensure the child's particular needs are addressed
in close partnership with parents, siblings, and extended family
members, to ensure continuity of care through home visits and
counseling. Arrangements must be made with the Early Childhood
Special Education teacher, Director/asst. Director and parent before a child may receive
therapy services.
Reduced Teacher/Child ratio. Our current ratios are as follows:
- Infants 3 children to one teacher
- Toddlers 5 children to one teacher
- Preschool 6 children to one teacher
- Pre-kindergarten 4 children to one teacher
- School Age 8 children to one teacher
Developmental Testing. Each child is tested using the Battelle Developmental Inventory within one month of arrival and six months thereafter at
Turnquist Child Enrichment Center. This test can determine the age level at which your child currently
functions. It will also point out areas of strength and weakness of
each child to share with parents at parent conferences or at
individual meetings. Parent/Teacher conferences are offered in
November and May where a written assessment will be done of
child's intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.
Additional conferences may be arranged upon request.
The center also uses ASQ and ASQ-SE testing on each child. Each child is evaluated at pre-determined age intervals using the ASQ and ASQ-SE. These test are used to asses a child's development in the areas of communication, motor skills, and social behaviors. The ASQ and ASQ-SE results will be reviewed with parents at parent conferences or at scheduled meetings. The center may also use other developmental testing materials to measure a child's skill levels and advancements.
