When using a Rebounder in your S.M.A.R.T. program, we often get asked, “Handle or No Handle?” When using a rebounder as part of S.M.A.R.T., our primary answer is always SAFETY FIRST!
While the handle can provide support for some children, not every child needs it—and for some, having a handle may actually encourage bigger, riskier jumps. If a child needs assistance with balance or confidence, consider having them hold your hands while they jump so you can provide support and control the movement. Jumping on a trampoline provides strong proprioceptive input as children’s muscles and joints work together to stabilize and control their bodies. The repeated push-and-land pattern also gives the brain information about body position, force, and movement through space. As always, check with your administration and licensing requirements to understand your school or program’s policies regarding the use of rebounders or similar equipment.
