S.M.A.R.T. Space Spotlight: When the Hallway Becomes the Plan Sometimes the best S.M.A.R.T. ideas happen when the original plan has to change. Just one week after completing their S.M.A.R.T. PreK training, one school found themselves needing to pivot because of poor air quality. Instead of letting the change in routine stop their movement plans, the team got creative—and brought S.M.A.R.T. into the hallway! With some teamwork, imagination, and a few simple movement activities, the hallway became an intentional space for children to move, explore, and support their readiness. And the results were noticeable.
Teachers began commenting throughout the day: “It feels and sounds so calm today.” But perhaps the most powerful part of this story came from Michelle, who shared: “If today would have happened before training, we would have put the scooters in the hallway and called it good—thanks for encouraging us to want to be better.” That is the heart of S.M.A.R.T. ❤️ It’s not about having the perfect space or having every detail figured out. It’s about looking at the spaces you already have through a S.M.A.R.T. lens and asking, How can intentional movement make this space work even better for children? So, take a look around your school. What hallway, corner, open area, or everyday space could become an opportunity for intentional S.M.A.R.T. movement? You might be surprised by what you discover when you start looking through your S.M.A.R.T. lens!
