Johansen Individualized Auditory Stimulation (JIAS)

Enhance Listening and Understanding!
Johansen Individualized Auditory Stimulation (JIAS, formerly HSAS) is a program that assists with developing the auditory pathway so individuals with auditory processing difficulties can process auditory information more efficiently. The JIAS program involves listening to music specifically designed to stimulate a person's nerve pathways into (and within) the brain. Children as young as three-years-old can utilize the program to address a variety of speech and language difficulties.

Developed by Dr. Kjeld Johansen, Director of the Baltic Dyslexia Research Lab in Denmark, the user listens to individualized CDs for 15-20 minutes, six days a week. The music is specifically designed to stimulate the areas of the brain that deal with language. Dr. Johansen has been a leading researcher of non-verbal auditory stimulation and its affects on language-based learning for more than 30 years. To read more about Dr. Johansen, please visit www.johansenias.com.

JIAS has a strong track record and has been in some European countries for 20+ years. At A Chance To Grow, we use JIAS on a variety of diagnoses such as auditory processing deficits, developmental delays, autism and speech/language delays.
When the sub-skills for listening and learning are strengthened through listening to Johansen IAS CDs, language processing abilities can be seen to improve. Concentration, listening and understanding of language are enhanced as incoming information is dealt with more quickly and efficiently. Gains in reading and spelling are also often seen, as the ability to analyze the sound structure of words is strengthened, making decoding much easier." - JohansenIAS.com

What our clients say about our services
“We are very pleased with the JIAS program. Our daughter’s hearing/processing was altered significantly. Prior to my daughter’s treatment she was extremely disorganized, never prepared and had many lost and missing assignments due to her auditory processing issues. At my daughter’s last conferences every single one of her teachers commented on how she was always organized and prepared for class. She has improved with hearing background noise, understanding of directions, concentrating and reading. So far I’m very happy with it, and we are only four months into it."
