turnquist child enrichment center

Bridging the Achievement Gap!
Turnquist Child Enrichment Center is an NAEYC accredited, Hennepin County Strong Beginnings site, and 4-star Parent Aware certified daycare center for children ages six-weeks-old to Kindergarten age. Our dedicated staff provide a safe and nurturing environment while promoting the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of each child.

Our curriculum emphasizes school readiness skills, including language development and early literacy skills, gross and fine motor development, social and emotional development, exposure to technology and cultural diversity.
Classrooms and Student-Teacher Ratios:
  • Infant Room - 3:1
  • Toddler Room - 5:1
  • Preschool Room - 7:1
  • Pre-K Room - 8:1
Our philosophy is to encourage children to be actively involved in the learning process. Classroom opportunities allow each child to experience a variety of developmentally appropriate activities while pursuing their own interests to help them meet their maximum potential. Teachers communicate closely with parents to learn the best ways in which to meet the child's individual needs.

Additionally, A Chance To Grow and the Turnquist Child Enrichment Center provide door-to-door transportation and childcare services to
teen parents throughout the year to ensure they stay in school and graduate. By collaborating with the Minnesota Visiting Nurses Agency, ACTG’s Teen Parent Program has resulted in 100% of teenage mothers served by our services earning their GED or high school diploma 3 years in a row.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Ages do you serve?
We care for children six-weeks-old to twelve-years-old.
What are your hours?
There is no specific time that you have to drop off your child(ren), but we do encourage families to drop off their children by 9 a.m. to ensure they can participate in a variety of activities throughout the day. Turnquist opens at 6:30 a.m. and closes at 5:30 p.m.
How will I know what is happening during my child's day?
Parents and caregivers are always welcome to visit or call during the day, and when you pick up your child, you will receive a daily note from your child’s teacher describing how long your child napped, what portion of their meals they ate and how they were feeling that day. Their teacher will also describe all of the fun activities that your child and their friends participated in, and there will always be a little note from your child’s teacher regarding a special moment of your child’s day.
May I visit my child during the day?
Absolutely! Feel free to join us at lunchtime, playtime, anytime!
Will my child be challenged academically at Turnquist?
We provide an enriched classroom experience, utilizing Creative Curriculum® and S.M.A.R.T., a brain-centered learning readiness program. As a Strong Beginning’s site, we provide regular assessments for development -- cognitive, emotional and physical – and provide interventions when needed. In addition, our full playground and school forest provides a healthy outdoor play space.
What are the staff's credentials and training?
Each classroom is made up of warm and nurturing teachers with a combination of formal education and experience.
Turnquist teachers are…
  • Selected for their ability to engage children in the learning process through the use of effective and unique lesson plans and interventions
  • Required to fulfill education and experience requirements as outlined by Strong Beginnings
  • Required to attend numerous workshops, courses and trainings to stay current in the field and maintain a level of understanding and expertise
  • CPR and first aid certified
Do Children go outside every day?
Yes! Weather and age permitting, children play outside every day! Large motor activities are considered an extension of the classroom. In addition to running, jumping and climbing, teachers plan nature walks, picnics and other learning opportunities.
What do you charge?
Please contact us at (612)-706-5590 to schedule a tour and get our current rates.
Do you accept county assistance?
Yes. County assistance is offered through The Department of Human Services (DHS) in Minnesota. The DHS helps eligible low-income families pay for childcare. Please contact your county’s Department of Human Services for more information and to sign-up for the assistance program.
what meals do you provide?
We provide Similac Advanced and Similac Sensitive formula for infants. We also have a breast-feeding room for nursing mothers and can serve your breast milk to your infant. As your child grows, we provide baby food and catered table foods. For children one year or older, we provide food that is catered by Lancer Dining Services, which is a U.S.D.A., certified food program. We provide breakfast, lunch and snack for children while in our care.
How do you discipline a child?
We use a positive discipline approach to aid with inappropriate behavior. We use re-direction and encourage children to verbally express themselves. Children will learn to make choices and begin to understand the natural or logical consequences of their choices. There are many positive discipline strategies that we use based on the age and personality of each individual child.
