neuro integrative Treatment Models

One size
doesn't fit all

The Neuro Integrative Clinic's approach combines elements of several different methods to provide our clients with a comprehensive and individualized program that addresses their specific health concerns.

The primary modalities we incorporate in the Neuro Integrative approach are:
  • Masgutova Neurosensorimotor Reflex Integration (MNRI)
  • Developmental Movement
  • Sensory Processing (Auditory, Vision, Vestibular, Tactile)

Integrating these methods allows our therapists to craft a foundational approach to physical, sensory, learning, communication, emotional and behavioral challenges.

Masgutova Neurosensorimotor Reflex integration (MNRI)

MNRI is a comprehensive, research-based intervention. The goal of MNRI is to identify any challenges in the nervous system, related to incoming sensory information (touch, vision, auditory, balance, etc.) and/or outgoing motor functions (walking, talking, writing etc.). This is done by looking at how well primary motor patterns (automatic responses from the nervous system) are functioning as a part of the whole brain-body system. For additional MNRI information, please visit www.masgutovamethod.com.

Sensory processing

This term refers to the way the nervous system receives messages from the senses and turns them into appropriate motor and behavioral responses through regulation and modulation of the sensory systems. Proper processing of information from the environment through the tactile, vestibular, visual and auditory systems is necessary for the feeling of safety, focus and behavioral self-regulation. For additional Sensory Processing information, please visit www.spdfoundation.net.

Auditory processing

This is a natural process of taking in sound through the ear and having it travel to the language area of the brain to be interpreted. To have a breakdown in this process is called an auditory processing disorder or “delay.” This deficit is present despite having normal hearing. Auditory processing is "what our brain does with what the ear hears". When one is faced with an auditory processing deficit, his or her ears can pick up the sounds, words, etc., but his or her brain is not able to process the sounds properly -- the auditory information becomes jumbled up or confused and therefore, misunderstood. If there are symptoms of inadequate auditory skills, our therapist will refer to ACTG's audiologist who specializes in Auditory Processing Disorders.

Functional Vision

The two areas of vision that A Chance To Grow screens are eye tracking and eye teaming. Eye tracking is the ability to control where we aim our eyes. Eye teaming is controlling how we use and aim our eyes so that they do not see double. If there are symptoms of inadequate vision skills, out therapists will refer the client to ACTG's developmental optometrist. For additional information on Vision, please visit our Vision Services page or www.eyecanlearn.com.

Buteyko Breathing Method

Breathing should be relaxed, regular, and at a rate that meets the body’s needs for whatever level of activity it is engaged in. Dr. Konstantine Buteyko created his breathing technique in the 1950’s to solve chronic disordered breathing, which he observed was associated with numerous disorders such as asthma, sleep apnea, allergies, anxiety, ADHD, and dental health, among others. The objective is to reduce the body’s tendency to over-breathe (hyperventilate) when it experiences triggers such as stress, and re-set breathing patterns so that they are once again relaxed and steady. The result is a calmer body and mind with overall improved health. Speech-Language Pathologist, LeAnn Taylor, teaches the Buteyko Method as a treatment modality through the NI Clinic. For additional information on the Buteyko Breathing Method, please visit Buteykoclinic.com, Innovativemedicine.com, or healthline.com.

craniosacral therapy

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a whole-body treatment technique that works to support and nourish an individual's central nervous system. Developed in the 1970s by Dr. John Upledger, the intervention utilizes light touch on the body's fascia system - a stretchy, membrane-like covering found throughout the body, including on organs, nerves, muscles, the brain and spinal cord. By applying gentle pressure from the hands (5 grams or the weight of a nickel), a practitioner can assist the release of this connective tissue and guide the movement of fluids to be in rhythm with other systems of the body, boosting our natural ability for self-healing. CST is based on the idea that the body is interconnected at all levels - physically, emotionally and spiritually. It is used to treat a variety of symptoms, including headaches, pains and aches, brain injury and more. CST is appropriate for all ages. For additional information on Craniosacral Therapy, please visit the Upledger Institute.
