Building
Better Brains

If you are an educator who is focused on helping students reach their highest potential regardless of their ability, and you’re frustrated with the results you're seeing, we invite you to consider joining our community of professionals who view and understand children developmentally.
Here at the Minnesota Learning Resource Center (MLRC), our mission is two-fold:

1. We provide brain-centered training programs through the following workshops:
  • Stimulating Maturity through Accelerated Readiness Training (S.M.A.R.T.)
    • Elementary
    • Pre-K
  • Bridging The Gap

2. We support a community of educators who use a developmental approach in teaching and working with students.
  • S.M.A.R.T. Mentoring
  • S.M.A.R.T. Newsletter
  • Downloads and  Products
At the Minnesota Learning Resource Center, we offer a multi-faceted program called S.M.A.R.T. that:
  • Provides workshops for educators and professionals on how to implement brain stimulating strategies into the school day
  • Benefits all children, from those who struggle to those already at or beyond grade level
  • Enables schools to implement an effective and cost-efficient program
  • Offers on-going support and mentoring to schools
We invite you to discover our workshops, read what educators have to say, review the research and join a network of caring professionals dedicated to helping each student reach his or her full potential!

For more information on our programs or workshops, please contact us at (612) 789-1236 or mlrc@actg.org.

The history
of the MLRC

The MLRC was established in 1999 via funding from the Minnesota State Legislature. Since that time, our methods have been practiced both state and nationwide and, more recently, in countries across the globe!

Following our establishment, we continued to receive legislative financial support until 2006. The U.S. Department of Education also provided two major grants to the MLRC between 2001 and 2005, totaling nearly $1.5 million. The combined state and federal funding allowed us to expand to more than 250 elementary schools across the country, spanning 13 states.

In 2011, we completed a five-year study that allowed 20+ Head Start sites to establish a
S.M.A.R.T. Pre-K model, designed to assist with preparing children to learn prior to their entry into elementary school. Today, we continue to host workshops and provide follow-up mentoring in schools and pre-k centers across Minnesota and throughout the United States.

Our team of professionals and experienced educators, including elementary and pre-k teachers, occupational and vision therapists, reading specialists, physical educators, principals and administrators, present at the workshops and visit schools year round to help fellow educators view and understand children developmentally.
