ACTG COVID-19 Update

A Chance To Grow remains open. Our agency provides essential services in two categories:
Health Care and Child Care.

The health and well-being of the children and adults with disabilities we serve depends in part on the therapeutic and PCA services we provide.

We always place the health and safety of those we serve first. Recognizing that many of our clients are immune-compromised, we are taking every precaution available to keep our environment as safe as possible during the COVID-19 health emergency. To read our full statement, including the steps were taking, please click here.

Department updates:
  • Home-Based Services continues to provide exceptional in-home PCA services
  • Turnquist Child Enrichment Center continues to provide childcare, implementing social distancing and regular disinfecting practices to keep the space safe.
  • ACTG's Clinics, including occupational therapy, NDMI, speech-language pathology and auditory service remain open. Current clients are welcome to come in for appointments or inquire about tele-therapy services.
  • The in-clinic neurofeedback program is still servicing clients while meeting the state guidelines for virus prevention. Due to extra measures taken to disinfect the space, clients are spread out throughout the day.
    • Audio Visual Entrainment consults for purchase and program assessments are available via Zoom, FaceTime, email or phone.
    • Neurofeedback rentals are available for in-home use.

Summer workshops – REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!
Summer is on everyone’s mind, and for the MLRC that means summer workshops. It may be our 2020 summer workshops will be affected in several ways by the COVID-19 pandemic. The safety of our participants, presenters, and community are our top priority. While we continue to assess what our options may be for the summer, we will follow all recommendations and guidelines of the state health departments of Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Still, we realize educators and school districts need to plan so we are announcing our current dates for summer workshops. In doing so, we have implemented a new registration policy.
Free Distance Learning Resources
Parents and educators alike are feeling the challenges of distance learning. How do you keep your kids on track? Not just academically, but emotionally, socially, and physically? We are here to help. S.M.A.R.T. Tips for Parents are focused on helping children to be ready when they step back into the classroom.

ACTG is posting free daily S.M.A.R.T. tips on our website and social media platforms. These are simple ways to work in developmentally appropriate activities throughout the day, utilize purposeful movement to boost learning readiness, and means to stay active while at home. Find S.M.A.R.T. Tips for Parents on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram or in our SMART Newsletter.

Amidst all this uncertainty we want to help. Our goal at the MLRC is to support educators and parents as best we can with what we have. We hope you find them helpful and that you will share them with others. If you have ideas you want to share with other teachers, tell us about them!

ACTG Presents at the 2020 Minnesota Association for Children's Mental Health Conference
Kelly Pittman, director of Neurotechnology at A Chance To Grow, was a featured presenter at the MACMH Conference this past April. Her presentation, title "Beyond Talk: Strategies for Calming the Brain and Trauma-Induced Behavior," explores how electrical energies influence the brain and emotions, why trauma is so complex, and how to rewire the brain into a state of calm with brain-training and in-home strategies.

The event was changed over to an online conference and is a great resource for parents, therapists, social workers, and medical staff. Please follow us on Facebook to keep updated as to when the recorded seminar will be available on our website.

What our clients are saying...
"We were in the process of getting an IEP for my son because he was not able to complete his homework at night. It was frustrating and we tried everything. After a couple weeks of neurofeedback, my son started doing homework on his own, and we didn't need to start an IEP! The changes from this program were more noticeable than any other program we have tried."

Get your AVE Out of the Closet!
Free AVE videos to help you start a training program in-home. We have a limited selection of AVE machines in stock and available in our store! Let us know if you have questions!

"My son did AVE almost every night. While we didn't notice a big change at home, his teacher called us and said, 'Whatever you are doing, please keep doing it! The changes this month have been incredible. Tom has his homework done, participates in class, and is no longer disruptive with other students." - Mom of an 10-Year-Old with Aspergers

Building Good Futures
Here's the story of Jillian, a teen parent with two children at Turnquist Child Enrichment Center, who utilized the Teen Parent Transportation Program to change her and her children's lives.

"Jillian had just entered high school when she learned that she was going to be a mother. At 14, she was overwhelmed at the idea of being a single parent.

She told herself, “I’m going to stay in school. I’m going to get this done.” She attended classes for a few months, but a complicated pregnancy and unstable living situation made it nearly impossible to focus on her studies. Like so many teen parents, she had to drop out to care for herself and her child."
