Does your child have trouble with focusing on homework or concentrating during class? Do they seem disorganized, distracted, or impulsive? Maybe they have difficulty shifting from one thing to another? It may be they have an underdeveloped midbrain. This great 4-minute video from Brain Highways does an excellent job of describing an immature midbrain. The S.M.A.R.T. Program does an excellent job of maturing the midbrain! (We call it the brain stem - they are one in the same.)

I watched the video about the Midbrain and I am wondering if you have a few resources for follow up regarding what to do about the lack of development in this area for the kiddos and their parents. Thanks!

Hi Lisa! Great to hear from you. The S.M.A.R.T. Core activities were designed to stimulate and mature the midbrain/brain stem. They are based on development and are very fun for children to do. Creeping on the floor, rolling and/or spinning around, and walking on balance beams to name just a few. Here is a link to a page that describes several of the activities, their purpose, and how they impact the classroom. https://www.actg.org/uploads/1/2/0/6/120683028/smart_benefits2019.pdf
