Movement and learning are a powerful combination. Developmentally, movement plays a major role in understanding our bodies. Essentially, our bodies NEED to move in order to learn HOW to be still. This is precisely why S.M.A.R.T. is a part of your work with children. Learning Ladders can beautifully bridge academic content and movement.

Are you scrambling to find time to make new Learning Ladders? We hear you. Consider how you might make your whiteboard or Smartboard in your space a quick and effective Learning Ladder.

​Writing your content on a whiteboard or typing up a quick Word file can save you time and resources. It also allows you to incorporate a current curricular topic quickly. In the photo, a fluency ladder and skip counting by 2s are modeled. Pair an age-appropriate movement such as cross patterning, bouncing and catching a ball, or shifting an object from hand to hand, and boom…..movement and learning. ​

​When you are short on time or ideas, you can always project word lists from your reading curriculum on your Smartboard and have students use it like a Learning Ladder. Decoding and movement…a reading power move!
